Three Small Sleep Habits That Gave Me My Energy Back

July 13, 20261 min read

Hey friend,

Have you ever slept a full night and still woken up tired? Like you could crawl right back into bed? I used to live there. For a long time I treated sleep like the thing I'd get to once everything else was done. I was so wrong.

When I don't sleep well, everything is harder. I want more sugar, I have less patience, and no amount of trying-harder makes up for it. So I stopped pushing through being tired and started protecting my sleep instead.

Three small things helped me most, and all three are free.

First, morning sunshine. I get outside for a few minutes of morning light, on the porch, in the backyard, or on a short walk. It helps set your body's clock so you feel more awake in the day and sleepier at night.

Second, my phone stays off my nightstand. That way it's not the last thing I see at night or the first thing I grab in the morning. I turn the TV off earlier too. Screens keep your brain wired right when it's trying to wind down.

Third, I try to go to bed and wake up around the same time, even on weekends. Your body loves a rhythm, and it pays you back with better sleep.

None of these is a big deal on its own. Together, they changed how I feel.

A calm nightstand with a lamp, an open book, and reading glasses, and no phone in sight.

Want to start tonight? Pick just one. I'd begin with morning sunshine tomorrow, it's the easiest. One choice, one day at a time.

If you want the rest of what helped me, all in one simple place, it's in my Midlife Reset Playbook.

You've got this.

Love you big,

Jen

Hey friend, I'm Jen. When midlife hit, I lost my energy, my spark, and somewhere along the way I stopped feeling like myself. I did the work naturally, came back to myself, and in 2026 I earned my credential as a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner so I could help other women do the same. These days my favorite title is Gigi, and I write from my kitchen in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
